By Todd Camp Fort Worth Star-Telegram Published: Friday, March 7, 2001 Four reasons to celebrate The lineup’s changed, the venue shifted and the crowds have grown, but the one thing that’s remained consistent since improvisational comedy troupe Four Day Weekend opened up shop four years ago is that they’re still not funny. Oh, come on, they’re hilarious. We kid because we love. And Saturday night you can join the Weekenders, along with a crowd full of the liquored-up college kids that make them into stars, for a celebration of the longest-running show in Fort Worth history (we think). Count on the liberal mix of improvised scenes, sketches and songs as well as the occasional audience humiliation you’ve come to expect from a Four Day performance, but stick around afterward for an added treat. Four Day’s acerbic, mouse-headed host, David Ahearn, will premiere his new short film, Burning the Grump, featuring Four Day regulars Oliver Tull and David Wilk. This slick comic thriller starts off as a more low-key version of Cecil B. Demented, with a group of amateur film-makers abducting a fading starlet (Kristin McCollum), but it spins off in a direction you won’t see coming. The guys have incorporated video footage into their performances for some time now, but with this effort, it’s clear that they’re as funny on film as they are on stage. |
